“Baking New Beginnings”

The Pioneer Bakery Cafe, a joint effort between McArthur’s Bakery Cafe and Lafayette Industries, is aimed at providing the most robust fast-casual training program focusing on front-of-house and back-of-house skills for adults with intellectual disabilities.

The Pioneer Bakery Cafe will combine McArthur’s 64 years of bakery experience and Lafayette Industries’ 44 years of history employing and training adults with disabilities.

Executive Chef Saul Juarez

Executive Chef Saul Juarez brings a lifetime love for baking and creating show-stopping desserts that started when he was just 6 years old. Juarez grew up in a small town in Mexico and stated his first job when he was just six years old. His love of baking began as he learned the basics in his cousin’s bakery, first starting with oiling sheet pans and pulling bread from the oven! At age 6 he knew he had a love for baking and the kitchen.

Training Opportunities

Are you, or do you know an individual, between the ages of 18 and 35 years old, with an intellectual or developmental disability residing in St. Louis county? If so, are you eligible to participate in Lafayette Industries’ training program at The Pioneer Bakery Café. For more information on this free program, email stepup@lafayetteindustries.com.

Each meal or item purchased at Pioneer Bakery Café gives back to help support our training program and future job placement for our trainees.  Any additional tips or donations goes straight to supporting the growth of our training program.
